Radiologist, peds hem/onc fellow, internal med resident join faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Laura A. Newman, M.D.

Dr. Laura A. Newman, recently a pediatric hematology/oncology fellow at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.

After receiving her B.S. in biological science magna cum laude from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Newman earned her M.D. in 2012 at UMMC, where she had a pediatric residency from 2012-15 and a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship from 2015-18.

The author or coauthor of three posters presented at scientific meetings, Newman is the coauthor of a scientific article published in the Journal of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology and a scientific article published in the American Journal of Medical Genetics. An active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, her research interest is in congenital amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia in the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. He has a clinical interest in bleeding disorders.

Kelly D. Pippin, M.D.

Dr. Kelly D. Pippin, recently an internal medicine resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in medicine.

An honor graduate of Hidden Valley High School, Roanoke, Virginia, Pippin earned her B.S. in biological engineering cum laude at Mississippi State University in 2009 and her M.M.S. summa cum laude at Mississippi College in 2010 before obtaining her M.D. at UMMC in 2015. She was an internal medicine resident from 2015-18.

A member of Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Society, Pippin received several awards for outstanding performance at UMMC.  She plans to pursue a hematology and oncology fellowship in the future.

Ronald S. Pritchard, M.D.

Dr. Ronald S. Pritchard, a longtime radiologist, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of radiology.

After receiving his B.S. in biology from the University of South Alabama, Mobile, in 1977, Pritchard earned his M.D. at the University of South Alabama in 1981. He had a general surgery internship at the University of South Alabama from 1981-82, a radiology residency at Baptist Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama, from 1982-85, and an interventional radiology and magnetic resonance imaging fellowship at Baptist Medical Center, Highlands Diagnostic Center, from 1985-86.

Pritchard has more than 30 years of experience as a radiologist in Arkansas and Mississippi. He also briefly served as an assistant professor of radiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science, Little Rock.
